HamCon, Great Lakes Amateur Radio Association – SLAARC Affiliation

Meeting Presentation

GLARAHamCon

During our February meeting, Larry Camp WB8R presented the first-ever Great Lakes Amateur Radio Association (GLARA) sponsored hamfest, planned to be held at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS).  GLARA is a new council of clubs, that would come together to support the MIS Hamfest (Great Lakes HamCom).  This would occur October 7 to 8, 2017 and would have major suppliers, a swap-and-shop, plenty of parking, camping sites, and interesting speakers and forum topics.

Request for Consideration

We will be considering an affiliation with GLARA during our next regular meeting.

This will allow our club, and our membership, to support the creation of a new major Amateur Radio Event, close to home!

GLARA would ask that we support through:

  • Provide a contribution, suggested to be at $250
  • Provide volunteers, approximately 5 people

In part, our club would acknowledge that:

  •   GLARA is organized to be a IRS tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)3 or the Internal Revenue Code and intends to obtain 501(c)3 status.
  •   GLARA intends to operate the hamfest at MIS for the benefit of the local amateur radio community of clubs affiliated with GLARA. Funds will be distributed at the discretion of the GLARA board of directors and must be consistent with the tax-exempt mission of the association.
  •   The GLARA board may retain funds from year to year for purpose of growing the hamfest for the long-term best interest of the served amateur radio community.

The forms are available in our Member Only section, 2017 Business Meetings, February.
