September POTA Event – Astronomy at the Beach

SLAARC will be at the annual Astronomy at the Beach event, Friday September 13th and Saturday September 14th. The Astronomy event begins at 6:00 PM both days. However, SLAARC will operate outside of this schedule. Our tentative location is between the structure and the parking lot, as it was in 2017.

Hints for Attending the Event

  • If the weather is poor, we will probably not operate, however, the astonomy presentations will still take place. Will monitor the N8SL repeater.
  • Lots of kids attend, need to ensure safety of equipment set-up
  • As darkness approaches, the telescope observation area’s become sensitive to light. Bring red lights if planning to be there for observing.
  • Island Lake is a park, make 10 QSO’s and you have successfully activated the park. It still counts for personal call signs when using the club call.
