Happy Independence Day to you and your family! We’re a few days behind as the vacation wraps up, but we have an exciting July Calendar of Club Events to bring you this month. I’d like to take a moment to personally thank Mark Torigian who collaborated with our club this month to bring a special joint POTA Support Your Parks Event. We hope to have an excellent showing, so please see the details below!
Special Event: Summer Support Your Parks – Saturday July 19, 10am-3pm – In-Person (Open to All)
This month, we bring you a collaborative event with the LARK crew! We’ll be meeting at Proud Lake Campground, on Site 14 and 16, to activate the Proud Lake Park for Summer SYP! Special Thanks to Mark and Darrell who have reserved the sites for the event. We’ll be doing a pot-luck style lunch around noon, and we encourage you to bring some food to share if you would like to partake in the festivities.
Bring your radio, or find one of the many members who are planning on attending and ask to operate theirs! This event represents the third in a series of 4 Support Your Parks events sanctioned by the Parks on the Air program.

Monthly: Club-Meeting: Sunday July 13th at 6:30pm – In-Person (Open to all)
The monthly club-meeting is an opportunity for members to meet in person and share a dinner (optional) at the Witch’s Hat Brewing Company (starts at 5pm) before proceeding across the street to the official meeting place. Club meetings occur at Witch’s Hat Depot starting at 6:30pm, and generally last 1 hour. Topics for each months meeting will be posted prior to the meeting. This event is open to anyone with an interest in the club or amateur radio. You do not need to be a member to join us!
Monthly: 2-Beer Social Radio Hour: Friday July 25th @ 4:45 pm – In-Person (Open to all 21up)
Come check out our “2-beer Social” and chat about radio projects with other like minded folks! We would love to see you and raise a pint with some club members to talk about the hobby and enjoy a cold brew at the end of the week. (USUALLY) Occurs the last Friday of each month from 4:45-7:00pm (or beyond, feel free to come a bit late if your work or commute dictates). Join us as we explore the semi-local microbrew scene!
This month we will be visiting Rail Yard in Fenton. Rail Yard is a taproom with a vast outdoor space, and a wide selection of Food Truck Style food. We look forward to sitting outdoors, weather permitting– If not, there is a vast INDOOR space.
Weekly: Sunday Evening 8pm – The Official SLAARC NET (Open to all licensed Amateurs)
Join us to chat about your recent radio achievements, hear club news, and have a chat with other club members. The weekly Sunday Evening net is the official NET of the SLAARC club and occurs on each Sunday on N8SL (147.040+ 110.9pl) where the club doesn’t have a regular monthly in-person Meeting!
As a reminder, we’re always looking for club members to volunteer to run the net! Please check out the sign-up sheet and help support our club activities if you are able!
Weekly: Thursday Evening 10pm – The Informal Late-Night Roundtable. (Open to all licensed Amateurs)
The Late-Night round table brings a bit more casual conversation with other night-owls on the repeater N8SL (147.040+ 110.9pl). This is not a formal net, so feel free to come by, jump into the conversation whenever a topic peaks your interest. Hosted by N8JRD or W8KNX, we’d love to have you for a late-evening chat!
We’re looking for new hosts for the Late-Night Roundtable! If you are interested, please reach out to N8JRD to take an evening.
Weekly: Saturday Morning 8:30am – In Person Radio Breakfast – In-Person (Open to all)
Join a group of club members on Saturday morning to get your day started right! Chat radio and life with other like minded folks over your choice of breakfast at the South Lyon Lucas Coney Island.
